A Brief Overview Of Informational Visualization

By Diane Williams

Abstract data often refers to a display of information which other than, being on the same page, has no other connection. When it comes to Informational Visualization or data analysis, it basically refers to data which has been placed in a visual form. In some cases, abstract data can also be used in conjunction with human cognition and understanding. For, when it comes data analysis, both numeric and non-numeric are part of the application.

A new field in comparison to documentation development, quality assurance, documentation control and specialization, data analysis involves several different areas. For example, the process is now related to computer science, graphics, visual design, psychology, business methods and others. In most cases, companies and industries prefer to hire individuals with a college degree or experience equal that of an Associates or Bachelor's degree.

Basically, this new area is framed in a way that provides a visual aspect that allows users to view large amounts of information at one time. Similar to flow charts and graphs, it allows for the conveying of information in new and exciting ways. Often known as data analysis, the process is indispensable when it comes to trouble shooting and problem solving in the industry.

Data mining, machine learning, tree maps, plotting and scatter plots are all associated with the application. In addition, data analysis allows for the discovery of unstructured insights which are often brought to fruition by individuals with minimal training. As there are no special requirements to become a data analyst, there could very well be a lot of jobs for people interested in these applications in the future.

One of the best things about this process is that analysts do not have to have any specialized or sophisticated education to interpret the data. As visualizing the data is also a hypothesis which is often followed by additional formal or analytic al testing. While this is the case, it is still one of the most high paying IT positions in many areas and in a number of different fields.

The history of the process dates back several decades. For, in the most basic form, it referred to computer graphics. Whereas, the process is now associated with many other areas, including the scientific community. If not for sound enhancement and graphic chips, this may have never been the case. For creating graphics before the development and distribution of video and sound cards was far more difficult than in the present moment.

More recently, data analysis and computer graphics became an active and ongoing necessity in a number of industries. As a result, there are now a number of annual and semi-annual conferences and conventions which have forums, merchandising opportunities, panels and workshops dedicated to the area of data analysis and visualization.

Once data analysis and visualization became an active part of the scientific community, it later spread to the areas of manufacturing, production control, market studies, health care, information graphics, data mining and finance. As a result, there will most likely be a number of new Information Technology jobs becoming available sometime in the near future. While this is the case, it is often advised that those looking for a career in Internet Technology obtain a degree with a major or minor in data analysis and graphics.
