Wireless Costs Management: How To Get Through It

By Joseph B. Kappernick

If you've been managing wireless costs for your enterprise IT environment, you'll know how distasteful the process is. Not only is it decentralized, it is ineffective too. The reason behind this is the overspending of enterprises on wireless services.

In 2013, there are a bunch of things where companies will be overspending. When it comes to wireless services, there is an estimated 30 to 40 percent increase already. Not to mention, there are other IT strategies that you have to pay for.

Is there a way that you can overcome these wireless management challenges and spend less?

* Companies are making a move to impose BYOD or Bring Your Own Devices. While it has its benefits, companies are suffering from lower company discounts. As employees bring their own devices, they are more inclined to apply for individual plans. Hence, the company cannot take advantage of corporate discounts if there are fewer accounts under it.

* The complex shared data plan is something new from wireless service providers. Talk to your service provider and know more about this service. Should you change your plan or stick to your current one?

* Your company should do a benchmark on the wireless costs available today. Due to consumers not knowing the breakdown of wireless costs pricing, many are overpaying for the services. Benchmarking should help you know the fair market price and avoid spending too much.

* Determine what you really need. With dozens of carrier plans out there for mobile devices, it is hard to keep up with the plans that you really need. Thus, enterprises just choose to stay with the carrier plans they have or know of. This is a mistake. To avoid overspending, you need to align your wireless usage with the right carrier plan. This is how you want to effectively manage wireless costs.

In business, every expense is given value. No matter how small or big it is, when you add it up, that still accounts for how much money is going out of your company's pockets. Heed this warning, wireless costs will increase due to the demand for it. So right now, practice these solutions so you can prevent overspending on what you don't really need and focus on what you do need.
